Welcome to the Beria language, history and culture wiki!
Beria is a language spoken by between 300,000 and 3,000,000 people based in Chad and Sudan. The semi-nomadic desert dwellers who speak this language call themselves the "Beri" people. Foreigners call both their language and people the "Zaghawa".
Since 2003, we have been working to create a system that would allow the Beria language to be written down. The need for this is without dispute, especially as we witness firsthand the suffering of the Beri though the DarFur crisis.
Besides the many individuals who are passionate for the cause of giving the Beri their own system of writing, there are two associations working to develop the Beria language: "l'Association pour le Développement Économique et Social du Département de Kobé" (ADESK) and "l'Association pour la Promotion de la Langue Beria" (APLB).
This "wiki" is primarily a forum for discussing how this language should be written. We look to you for ideas and input from your field of experience, be it personal (you are a Beria speaker) or academic. Together we will gradually come to a concensus on how this language should be written. The result will be a "Beria Orthography Statement", which through testing and practice will become more and more useful.
